Experience the classical harmonies of pianist, Laura Kargul, and violinist, Callie Brennan, a powerful duo whose sounds blend in emotionally rich performances. Their music captures stories of love, humor, and connection, creating an intimate and unforgettable concert experience.
Violinist Callie Brennan and pianist Laura Kargul made their duo debut this year by carrying on the tradition of the annual Valentine’s Day Concert, a popular Maine event introduced and established over a decade ago by the Lantz-Kargul Duo. Brennan, a former student of Ronald Lantz, recently filled the Portland String Quartet position vacated by his retirement in 2022.
Their varied program will center on the rarely performed masterpiece by French composer Jacques de La Presle, his Sonata for Violin and Piano, an ecstatic work written in the heat of passion for his young fiancée. Also on the program are works by Ernest Chausson, Christian Sinding, Jean Sibelius, Joseph Canteloube and Astor Piazzolla.
This brilliant new duo will present not only poetic, heartfelt and bold performances of these works, but also deliver humorous and insightful remarks along the way. A unique and exciting evening to remember!
